The Covid precautions for my pre-booked swim on Friday 23rd April 2021 required swimmers to arrive “beach-ready”. It was my first swim in a swimming pool in 414 days, I was overjoyed and despite the long break, was delighted to complete one 25m length underwater….next challenge — two lengths!

The only reason I had got a sim card in Singapore was because my sister was about to give birth. With a ‘Lifeproof’ phone case and its ‘4 proof promise: water, dirt, snow, drop’, I thought it would be fun to take underwater selfies in the 50m outdoor pool with my mum. There’s only one way to learn that the promise was flawed. A specialist in Japan quoted $300 to retrieve the data — I never saw those photos.
